We see this as an opportunity to build and expand on the solid base of our own tertiary care teaching medical center by exploring opportunities for new joint programs and initiatives. The Mount Sinai Health System is New York City's largest academic medical system, encompassing eight hospitals, a leading medical school, and a vast network of ambulatory practices throughout the greater New York region.

Mount Sinai advances medicine and health through unrivaled education and translational research and discovery to deliver care that is the safest, highest-quality, most accessible and equitable, and the best value of any health system in the nation. The Health System includes approximately 7, primary and specialty care physicians; 13 joint-venture ambulatory surgery centers; more than ambulatory practices throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Long Island, and Florida; and more than 30 affiliated community health centers.

The Mount Sinai Hospital is ranked on U. Borough President James Oddo, who helped facilitate the discussions between the city and RUMC, pointed to the promises of years past when those running for office said they would make a public hospital a reality on Staten Island.

We also are concerned that making RUMC a public hospital would significantly harm doctor and staff recruitment and retention, further eroding the quality of care that we currently deliver to Staten Islanders.
