It is always a week full of fun, excitement, and learning as we take in all of the hotels and attractions that our guests experience while on their vacations. We recently returned from this trip and while we always try to do something new, this trip had so many new adventures that our staff got to experience for the first time.
I wanted to share a brief overview, because even our travel experts that have been to Southern California and the Disneyland Resort numerous times, got to do a lot of new things and it may spark something fun for your next vacation!
For the first time we stayed at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. It was so nice to be able to unwind and relax after a day of fun-in-the-sun. Some agents even took the subway into downtown L. The store takes up an entire level and is more like a bunch of mini stores within the store. There's a Willy Wonka section where you'll see all sorts of fabulous creations, a candy bar shop where you can place an order for your customized candy bar then watch it made before your eyes, there's an international candy shop with treats from all around the world, and more.
Plus, to get to the store, you walk up a set of stairs that looks like a giant piano and plays music as you walk up and down! Both properties are sprawling and beautiful.
All of our agents were swooning over these hotels and we think it would make such a perfect addition to any Disneyland vacation, or an ideal beach vacation for as long as you can stay! Near the top of the downtown core is the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, a worthwhile display of ancient creativity and modern-day pretenders. In the other direction, State Street passes through the wine tasting rooms in the Funk Zone and ends at Pacific-side Stearns Wharf, where fishing boats unload their daily hauls.
Discover the best things to do in Santa Barbara. Santa Catalina Island is a close and beautiful bet for short trips. The little strip of land—accessable by ferries from Long Beach, San Pedro and Dana Point—has all the makings of a well-rounded vacation: Rich history, beach town relaxation and outdoorsy adventure. On one side of the island, Avalon is a walkable, something-for-everyone kind of village where people flit around town in golf carts, shop in beach boutiques and stroll along the boardwalk with ice cream.
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, and a fair amount of touristy but worthwhile mainstays a zip line, a ritzy beach club, Jeep and heli tours—you get the idea. If an outdoorsy, off-the-grid trip is more your style, there are plenty of mountains and beaches to explore while hiking or biking , and lots of wildlife to see.
For a less touristy destination—almost the opposite of Avalon, and great for campers and backpackers—check out Two Harbors the ferries stop there, too. Take a Santa Catalina Island safari adventure and see bison, bald eagles, and more. Discover the best things to do in Catalina. For Angelenos, Palm Springs is a nice weekend getaway for any occasion.
